We were warned she would bring it back and Susan Fisher (D-114) has delivered on that promise. Last year's comprehensive sex education bill is now officially back and under a new title: the Healthy Youth Act. Below are the details as to why it still stinks and needs to be defeated. Please contact your representative in the N.C. House and get your churches and pro-family friends, family and organizations involved. This bill, if passed and signed into law by Bev Perdue will open the door for supremacist judges to impose San Francisco values in North Carolina's public schools.
H88: Healthy Youth Act (aka. Comprehensive Sex Education)
Primary Sponsors: Susan Fisher (D-114), Bob England (D-112), Alma Adams (D-58), W.A. Wilkins (D-55)
The Bill: An act to provide for abstinence until marriage and comprehensive sexuality education programs in grades seven through nine
Reasons to Oppose: This bill tries to calm the fears of parents concerned about immoral sex education in the classroom by giving parents a choice of abstinence vs. “comprehensive sex education” but the devil is in the details. Section 5, part A of the bill reads: “Teaches respect for marriage and committed relationships.” This gives a green light for public school educators to equate gay, lesbian, transgendered and any type of relationship with the sacrament of marriage between one man and one woman. Section 5, part D reads: “Teaches about the effectiveness and safety of all FDA-approved contraceptive methods in preventing pregnancy.” This will allow the public schools to advocate birth control and abortion. Section 5, part I reads: “Provides that information conveyed during the instruction shall be objective and based upon scientific research that is peer reviewed and accepted by professionals and credentialed experts in the field of sexual health education.” So, without any specifics as to what type of “experts” can provide public school sex education, this bill leaves open the possibility that representatives from the abortion industry like Planned Parenthood could be such “experts.” Bills such as these, if passed and signed into law are a green light for supremacist judges to find ways to take away parental rights in the classroom. Parents should not be fooled by this bill’s promise to offer a choice. Sex education is the responsibility of the parent and not the schools!
