Connecting Conservatives in North Carolina

We were warned she would bring it back and Susan Fisher (D-114) has delivered on that promise. Last year's comprehensive sex education bill is now officially back and under a new title: the Healthy Youth Act. Below are the details as to why it still stinks and needs to be defeated. Please contact your representative in the N.C. House and get your churches and pro-family friends, family and organizations involved. This bill, if passed and signed into law by Bev Perdue will open the door for supremacist judges to impose San Francisco values in North Carolina's public schools.

H88: Healthy Youth Act (aka. Comprehensive Sex Education)

Primary Sponsors: Susan Fisher (D-114), Bob England (D-112), Alma Adams (D-58), W.A. Wilkins (D-55)

The Bill: An act to provide for abstinence until marriage and comprehensive sexuality education programs in grades seven through nine

Reasons to Oppose: This bill tries to calm the fears of parents concerned about immoral sex education in the classroom by giving parents a choice of abstinence vs. “comprehensive sex education” but the devil is in the details. Section 5, part A of the bill reads: “Teaches respect for marriage and committed relationships.” This gives a green light for public school educators to equate gay, lesbian, transgendered and any type of relationship with the sacrament of marriage between one man and one woman. Section 5, part D reads: “Teaches about the effectiveness and safety of all FDA-approved contraceptive methods in preventing pregnancy.” This will allow the public schools to advocate birth control and abortion. Section 5, part I reads: “Provides that information conveyed during the instruction shall be objective and based upon scientific research that is peer reviewed and accepted by professionals and credentialed experts in the field of sexual health education.” So, without any specifics as to what type of “experts” can provide public school sex education, this bill leaves open the possibility that representatives from the abortion industry like Planned Parenthood could be such “experts.” Bills such as these, if passed and signed into law are a green light for supremacist judges to find ways to take away parental rights in the classroom. Parents should not be fooled by this bill’s promise to offer a choice. Sex education is the responsibility of the parent and not the schools!

Status: Filed. Please contact your representative in the NC House and urge him/her to oppose this bill. Get your churches and pro-family friends involved as well. We need a massive response from all across North Carolina to defeat this bill once again. To find out who represents you in the N.C. House, visit: http://www.ncleg.net/ where you can search by zip code.

Thanks Andrew for posting this heads up. Everyone needs to burn the phone up on this one. I know I'll be making multiple calls.

Andrew, you should know that we at Conservative Thunder have been following this story, and have the audio of the Press Conference where this atrocious bill was introduced. Thunder Pig recorded it and posted it on our General Assembly Watch Page.

Great, I'll check out the audio. There will be enormous pressure from the media to pass this bill so we need to move into action quickly.

Thank You for posting this information, Andrew. I'll be taking this information to church with me on Sunday.

Below is an example of SELECTIVE REPORTING concerning Susan Fisher's Comprehensive Sex Education Bill. See Anderw's COMPLETE reporting of what's REALLY in the Bill above.

North Carolina Two Track Sex Education (02/05/09)

State lawmakers may change the way North Carolina children learn about sex education. Under current law, students are taught an abstinence-based program. They're given little or no information on contraception.

Some legislators want to change that. A new bill, co-sponsored by Asheville representative Susan Fisher, would create a two-track sex education system for children grades seven through nine. The program require schools to offer both abstinence based and comprehensive sex education. Parents would then choose which track they want for their child.

Susan Fisher's previous attempt to overhaul the state's sex education curriculum failed in 2007.

The media will definitely promote H88. I can see those condescending editorials now, whining about the "religious right". What the media won't tell you is that once a bill like this is signed into law, it opens the door for supremacist judges to mandate unpopular activism. Here are some examples of what can and will happen if this bill becomes law:

A gay rights group could use the NC public schools, demanding that books like "Heather Has Two Mommies" be taught in the public schools. This suit would be on the grounds that (new) North Carolina state law teaches "respect for marriage and committed relationships" which is in the text of this bill, sponsored by Fisher.

An abortionist could sue if he/she were denied a teaching job on the grounds that (new) North Carolina state law requires that comprehensive sex education curriculum be based on scientific, peer reviewed and accepted by professional "experts." In fact, many abortionists have had articles published in peer reviewed medical journals so they would have grounds for a successful lawsuit if this bill gets signed into law.

All of us need to get the word out (especially to our churches) about the hidden dangers in this bill. We should also be aware that according to Susan Fisher's campaign website (electsusanfisher.com), she has been endorsed by the pro-abortion and pro-gay rights groups Planned Parenthood, North Carolina NOW and Equality NC. That tells you all you need to know about the agenda behind H88, the so-called "Healthy Youth Act"

I printed out a copies of your comments, Andrew, and copies of this bill and took to church with me.

Several people said they would be calling to oppose this bill on Monday.

Reply to This

That is EXACTLY what I did!

I ended up having to make an extra 50 copies on the copying machine at church.
